Deep Roots downtown move December 31, 2010 lease, Greensboro NC, Owner Loan Program, Deep Roots Market Owners
From the Deep Roots Market December, 2010 Newsletter, Talking Leaves.
“We at Deep Roots are excited to let you know that we are going forward with our plans for a new, expanded home for the co-op. As we write this on November 17, we expect that by December 31 we will sign a contingency lease for a site just north of downtown on North Eugene Street. If the project moves ahead as expected, we will then launch an Owner Loan Program (OLP) the first week in January with a letter to all Deep Roots Market Owners! The letter will officially announce the OLP, and tell you how to get the details.
At the new location, we will be able to add several features that you, our owners, have requested, including:
- A café featuring healthy foods
- An enlarged selection of delicious, nutritious food-to-go
- An improved selection of fresh, clean-raised meats & cheeses
- An expanded produce section
- A community meeting room for tastings, talks, demos and other store- & owner-related events
Expanding will allow us to better fulfill our mission. We’ll be able to serve even more of the greater Greensboro area with healthy, local and organic foods, become a hub for community activity, and provide extensive educational outreach on nutrition, sustainability, and cooperatives. Co-ops are expanding and prospering throughout the country, and we look forward to sharing this momentum!”

Pepsi Refresh Project vote for GEO Green Energy Online, Solar energy, Wind Energy, Passive solar projects, Create jobs
GEO, Green Energy On-line is seeking a Pepsi Refresh Project grant.
From our grant application:
Help us jump start simple, affordable green solar, wind energy, jobs.
About GEO,
Green Energy ON-line
Backgrounds in Math/Science & IT,
research going back to 70′s.
Projects this year include a electric motorcycle, wind generator for integration with passive solar projects. Two new passive solar projects. Window heat unit & crawl space unit. Co-op with 3 local co.
Goals:
Promote passive solar, wind energy in existing, new construction.
Make green energy more affordable.
Create jobs.
Boost the local and national economy.
The plan, already in place, is to promote simple, inexpensive passive solar solutions. A house built in 1910 is being adapted for wind energy & passive solar. The first wind generator installed with passive solar collectors will provide heat for the downstairs.Long terms plans are to fine tune the passive solar and to experiment with wind generators that produce electricity with lower wind speeds and solar heat assistance.
Ultimately the goal is to promote passive solar energy, the cheapest and most flexible of our abundant free energy. A byproduct of this effort will be putting people to work installing the solutions, which can be as simple as the window heat unit.
We are also working on the aesthetic aspect of passive and active solar. Too many of the existing products are an eyesore. We are brainstorming with another company to provide more aesthetically pleasing and more varied products which will allow more people to embrace this technology.

Refresh project grant, Passive solar, Wind generation, Creating jobs, Green energy
GEO, Green Energy On-line is seeking a grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project. This is not just about money, green energy and technology. It is very much about keeping the planet, geo, clean, energy independence and putting people to work.
From the Pepsi Refresh Project.
“The Pepsi Refresh Project is an online grant program which makes available millions of dollars to be granted to projects which are intended to improve communities through an online, democratic voting process (“Grant Program“). The Grant Program is open to individuals, for profit organizations (which have a maximum of $25 million in annual revenue) and non-profit organizations (see Section 1 below for more eligibility requirements). The Grant Program consists of six (6) categories (1) HEALTH – fostering wellness; (2) ARTS & CULTURE – celebrating the arts; (3) FOOD & SHELTER – ideas for providing food and shelter for the community; (4) NEIGHBORHOODS – building better communities; (5) EDUCATION – helping people learn at any age; and (6) THE PLANET – ideas which help the planet (the “Categories“).”

GEO, Green Energy On-line is committed to the goal of advancing green energy, making it more affordable and putting people to work. To that end we are focusing primarily on a combination of passive solar and wind energy with the integration of some active solar. To speed this process up and as the old saying goes “we are not made of money,” we will be pursuing a grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project. Our application is complete and awaiting the next window of application on December 1, 2010. If we are able to get our application accepted then, more information on how to vote will be provided. Please return often for updates on the grant application and ongoing projects.

GEO, Green Energy Online, Solar energy, Wind energy, How to, News, Products, Alternative energy
I began life with a math and science backgound and a lifetime fascination with electricity and magnetism. In the seventies I read every copy of Mother Earth News that I could get my hands on. One article in particular resonated with me. It was about a house built in the NC mountains that was designed to maximize passive solar energy. It had a great southern exposure with multiple glass layers, berming, a trellis to allow vines to block the sun’s rays in the summer and a small wood stove in the basement as backup. It used the concept of “gravity heat”, aka convection to take advantage of warm air rising. I was impressed.
I have already been involved in a Evehicle project, wind generator and passive solar. This has forced me to dig deeper into the nuts and bolts of practical energy, latest technology and experimentation. This information will be shared here along with the collective knowledge of others.
I am currently evaluating a small passive solar project (waiting for more leaves to fall) and experimenting on and planning for a larger passive solar project. This project also integrates electricity from a wind generator project. Inverter and grid tie inverter technology is changing rapidly. My findings on inverters will be forthcoming.
The following information will be reported:
- Green Energy Online News.
- Other green energy news.
- Solar technology. Solar cells, passive and other solar energy.
- Wind generator technology.
- Other alternative energy.
- Results of experimentation and testing.
- Product announcements and evaluations.
- How to information.
- Cost savings information.
- Government incentives.
- Everything associated with Green energy.
